My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of these terrible atrocities. Lt Col Beltrame proves that in this time of darkness there are still men of honour.
Lynn Bennett, Yaxham
Your wonderful country has suffered yet again but as before you and your people will show great strength of character. My wife and I hope that the courage shown by Arnaud Beltrame will inspire young people around the world to stand up for their beliefs and be counted.
David Dorkings, St. Albans
We are the lucky owners of a lovely presbytere near Carcassonne where we spend six months of the year. We were shocked to read of the death of several of our concitoyens of the Aude, but very moved by the display of courage and lucidity displayed by your senior police officer (truly an example for our times) not forgetting a number of his police colleagues. Please accept this expression of our deepest sympathy and continued support in these hard times. Vive la France! Long live France!
Patrick Early OBE, London
R.I.P Lt Col Arnaud Beltrame. An absolute hero in every sense. He faced fearful odds.
Giles Hamilton, London
Please accept my most sincere condolences on the untimely death of Arnaud Beltrame. In all my 30 years as a serving police officer and 24 years of retirement have I come across a man who went above and beyond the call of duty. Sir, I salute you. With men like Arnaud you will, I have no doubt, beat the enemy that plagues you to this day. Vive la France!
John Wilkinson, Lincoln
I was greatly saddened to hear of the deaths of M Medvès, M Mazières, and M Sosna in this callous attack. The heroism of Lt-Col Beltrame was phenomenal. My sincere condolences to their families and friends, to the people of the beautiful department of the Aude and to France.
Mike Aylott, Weymouth
As an ordinary person I would like to send our condolences to the families of the victims of Carcassonne and Trèbes. However, the courage shown by police officer, Arnaud Beltrame, displayed the best in our shared 'Western' values and in Christian terms: 'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends' John 15:13. 'Hero' is a word often misused these days but Mr Beltrame was certainly one. Many condolences to his family. RIP
Nigel McKernaghan, Watlington
Mes plus sincères condoléances aux familles et aux amis des victimes. Je pleure avec vous et avec la France toute entière.
Mary-Rose Cheadle, Cambridge
I would like to express my deep condolences to the families of the victims of this senseless attack. The heroism of the officer Arnaud Beltrame is indeed something which will not be forgotten.
Michael Coates-Smith, London
My deepest respect and admiration for Lieutenant-Colonel Arnaud Beltrame. France has lost a truly great man. My condolences to his family and friends.
Kenneth Dundas, Great Rissington
The Tinsley family send their deepest condolences to the victims of the recent terrorist attack and their families. The actions of Arnaud Beltrame show that these terrorists will never defeat our democracies.
Leslie Tinsley, Harpenden
We were all so shocked by the latest senseless attacks on French citizens. As fellow Europeans, we stand shoulder to shoulder with our French friends against this nihilistic plague. The courage and sacrifice of Lt. Col. Arnaud Beltrame is a credit to his faith and sense of duty, as well as his nation. He embodied true heroism and deserves the highest honours at home and around the world. He is the antithesis of jihadism and should never be forgotten. My family and I send our sincere condolences to the loved ones of those you have lost. May they rest in peace.
Sue Sullivan, Milton Keynes
My wife Penny and I want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Arnaud Beltrame for their loss. The ultimate sacrifice he made on a voluntary basis confirms that real courage still exsists. What he did is truly remarkable and is an amazing example of putting others ahead of yourself. A remarkable man and a perfect role model.
France should be very proud it has such brave people in it security services
Adrian & Penny Graves, Harlow
We wish to express our deepest sympathy to those affected by the atrocities committed at Carcassonne and Trèbes. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and families of Lt-Col Beltrame, M Medvès, M Mazières, and M Sosna. Although a sad day for France, their memory will live on. The bravery of Lt-Col Beltrame cannot be described in words, suffice to say "Vive la France", "Vive la liberté"
Tom McQuaid, Bristol
Many people in the world are sorry for the loss suffered by the families of those killed in the attacks. Most especially for the family of Lieutenant Colonel Arnaud Beltrame. No doubt the Beltrame family will feel pride at his heroic actions at the same time as feeling bitter loss. Although his actions were non-violent his courage represents, to an Englishman, 'la France qui se bat, la seule France, la vraie France, la France éternelle.'
Lawrence Linehan, High Wycombe
So often the word hero is used to describe someone who dies in the line of duty, usually in knowing the risk goes with their job. and deservedly so. However when someone like Lt.Col. Beltrame willingly leaves a place of relative safety to put himself in the place of a civilian at risk of death, I fail to find words to describe such an act. I really hope the nation, and indeed the world can celebrate a true giant among men - a real hero!
Tunde Olorunfemi, London
Arnaud Beltrame followed his Master who said: "Greater love hath no man than this, than he lay down his life for his friends" and respect for your ambassador who noted this on the Today Programme this morning and that it took place in Easter Week. I imagine Monsieur Beltrame will be awarded the Ordre National de la Legion d'Honneur. Our deepest condolences to his bereaved wife, Marielle.
Christopher Sugden, Oxford
I want to pay my condolences and respect for all the victims of the Trebes attack. Whilst I imagine he would not want to be singled out. Lieutenant-Colonel Arnaud Beltrame, to me, was a true hero and a credit to his unit and country. He made the ultimate sacrifice and unselfishly carried out his duty. I hope that his bravery will be rewarded with Frances highest honour. Respect, best wishes farewell. You honoured your country and the French people. Always to be remembered.
Mike Maddock, Towcester
Un vrai héros. Un vrai martyr. Un vrai chrétien. Un vrai Français. Que son âme repose en paix. Vive la France!
Cortland Fransella, London

I can add only little to the words already expressed by others, but wish to pay tribute and greatest respect to the sacrifice, honour and courage of Lt Col Beltrame. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues, together with the other victims of this terrible, wicked act.
Jean-Paul Mallard, Camborne

Danny McLoughlin, Greenock
The gendarme was not only a national hero but an inspiration to all people who want to be good. Such bravery and selflessness will long be a source of comfort. A truly great man.
John McManus, London

Richard Stephens, Brandon
We send our thoughts and prayers to all the victims of these shameful atrocities. Lt Col Beltrame is a true hero, such a selfless act of bravery. The French nation will prevail in this struggle, with the unconditional support from the British people.
Rob Baird, Huntingdon
Our sadness and condolences for all the victims of blind ignorance in Carcassonne and Trebes. Pour Lt Col Arnaude Beltrame: Il etait vraiment un martyr pour l'amour, pas de la haine
John Lameris, Stafford
We wish to let the people of France know that heroes cross international borders and he was most definitely 'a Hero' in every sense of the word. France and the world should be proud of a man like that, wearing his uniform with honour and dignity unlike the lowlife terrorist that took his life. Our sincere condolences to his family and everyone affected by this terrible crime committed in the name of of a foreign religion by a terrorist who didn't share European values - and sought to kill a just and decent man just doing his duty for everyone. We all most remain vigilant. Chris and Jan.
Chris Hunt, Snodland
A term much abused today is heroism. Certainly NOT in the case of Arnaud Beltrame. I feel very deeply for his family and can only let them know that. May France take care of you as you deserve. Try to repair your broken hearts if you can.
Richard Watson, Holloway
